A lot of times in production, some of the coolest characters get cut, whether due to complexity, story changes, etc. These Aztec ladies were no exception, sadly.  I really loved their design, by Sandra Equihua, and I had the pleasure of painting them and figuring out their details and such.
The painting of the lady on the left is in a small 2D scene in the beginning of the movie. Hopefully you see her next time you watch :)
I’ll be posting more production art every day this coming week, so stay tuned!

Centaur Made of Real Bones

Skulls Unlimited is the “World’s Leading Supplier of Osteological Specimens.”
They create custom skeletal mounts of animals that don’t exist (so say the scientists) such as this Centaur. The one featured here was created using the torso of a real human skeleton and melding it with the body of a horse.Generally the company provides ‘run of the mill’ skeletons for research, however, as with the centaur, they also make some pretty awesome fake examples of hard-to-find, or non-existent, skeletons.
